Packaging is one of the major factors of a product. The design of a packaging can give a whole different meaning to the product. A package design can define a product. Packaging can make a bad product appear very good because the first thing the customer sees before the actual product is the packaging.

An unattractive or unsuitable packaging becomes a downfall for any new product.
Packaging should look attractive, have a good design, it should be informative giving customers maximum details of the product which would matter to them. Packaging should also protect and secure the product.

For one of our our assignments for creative thinking we were asked to look at the packaging of products that we see around us and find out what's wrong in them. I picked out a few packages that as a customer I felt weren't appealing or had something wrong in them.

Fig. 1 displays a packaging of a packet of snacks and the first thing that caught my eye on the packet was the cartoon figure of a old geeky man in a white robe which is totally inappropriate for a packet of snacks. A animation of the product itself would have been more appropriate.

Fig. 2 is the packaging for cup noodles but on the box we see the logo of a football team with pictures of few of the team players which makes no sense at all. Instead a clearer picture of the noodles and its ingredients would have filled in the space better.

Fig. 3 displays a milk beverage. The brand name is ‘ hot kid’ which is not a very appealing name and so is the packaging. The colors and the animation on the packaging do not go with the product. A little more ligher and creamier  tones/colors should have been used.
Below are some more examples of packaging flaws-
